Suspected Drunk Driving Beverly Hills Officer Slams Car into Simi Valley Home

A Beverly Hills police officer was arrested Tuesday night after crashing his vehicle into a Simi Valley home.

According to reports, 42-year-old cop Jeffrey Sweet was driving under the influence (DUI) when it failed to negotiate a curve at Blackstock Avenue. The vehicle then slammed into a home, knocked down a utility pole, and came to a stop upside down on the wall of a second home.

Witnesses helped Sweet to get out from his vehicle. Fortunately for him, he did not sustain injuries but was transported to a hospital after complaining of pain.

Subsequently, Sweet was arrested and booked into Ventura County jail but was later released.

Aside from the Simi Valley police, the Beverly Hills police also responded to the incident and accordingly, the latter will likewise help in the investigation.

Moreover, according to the Beverly Hills force spokesperson, Lt. Lincoln Hoshino, Sweet is already in his 18-years of service to the agency. Consequently, the suspected DUI cop will not be put on leave pending an investigation and following administrative inquiry, said Hoshino.

At present, the cop’s blood-alcohol content level result is not yet determined, according to Simi Valley police spokesperson, Sgt. Craig Dungan.

Incidentally, the two damaged homes were evacuated due to a natural gas line that was severed during the incident. The Ventura County Fire Department crews closed the gas line to prevent it from catching fire, according to police.

Also, the Royal Avenue between Sequoia and Blackstone avenues was closed until Wednesday morning while the Southern California Edison was repairing the damaged utility pole.

Moreover, unfortunately for the home owner, authorities are currently assessing the damage incurred by the house. The worst part is that it is not yet determined whether it remains habitable or not.

Generally, car accidents result from a driver’s failure to exert care and to observe proper driving behavior. In most instances like in Sweet’s case, car accidents were a result of driving under the influence of either alcohol or other intoxicating substances.
